Why Windsong Ceremonies?

The wind carries the wishes of drifting seeds…

You might notice the blowing seeds on my business card and to me it is a reminder that you can view a dandelion as a bothersome weed, a source of nutrition, or look for the magic that comes from a childhood wish blown to the heavens…

This name actually came from my husband who first had a deep connection with the idea of naming our new acreage “Windsong Acres”. For him the association to the sound of the wind whistling across the Alberta prairies evokes powerful childhood memories of cousins and the views and scents of the farm.

I grew up in the mountains of B.C. and wind wasn’t as constant, but as an adult I have become so aware of the “songs” that are carried to me on the wind. On a spring evening as I lay in bed, the melody of the frogs and crickets filters in the open window. As we move into summer the breeze wafts a lovely scent of Evening Scented Stocks and the gentle melody of the windchimes dancing. Fall carries a lovely and indefinable scent of fall leaves starting to collect in glorious piles and a little gust carries the howl of the mama coyote and her babies that live nearby. Of course, the sound of the strong winds of winter have a different feel as I watch them driving the snow into artful drifts. Their special gift allows me to feel protected and safe while enjoying the crackling of birch logs and the slightly acrid smell of smoke that settles into our cozy family space from the fireplace.

When I have the opportunity to drive back into B.C., the first scent of the damp moss and the mixture of pine and fir trees drifting into my car window has an emotional impact as it takes me back to my childhood of climbing mountains and exploring outdoors.

When I considered creating a celebrancy practice, Windsong seemed like the perfect expression. Every stage of life, every transition, should be sung. I look forward to capturing the wishes you have blown gently out into the world and helping you create your memories with the ceremony of your dreams.

When you play songs, you can bring back people’s memories of when they fell in love… That’s where the power lies
